Biography
“Whether I am at the bedside, in a policy discussion or publishing research, I care for patients in their most vulnerable moments while I work to address the broader social determinants that led them there. I am committed to making trauma and emergency surgical care more equitable, evidence based and patient centered.”
Dr. Erin Dawson is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. She specializes in trauma, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery.
Her work takes place at the intersection of urgent, high-stakes care and deep systemic impact. She chose this field to combine her passions for surgery, public health and advocacy.
Dr. Dawson has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Her main areas of research are patient-centered trauma outcomes, gun violence, surgical education through simulation and necrotizing soft tissue infections.
Dr. Dawson received her Master of Public Health (MPH) and her medical degree at Tulane University. She completed residency in general surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by a fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at the University of Pennsylvania.
When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her husband, son and dog. They enjoy traveling, hiking, biking and trying out new restaurants.
