Dr. Mawardi is board certified in internal medicine, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. He is board eligible in cardiovascular medicine and cardiac computed tomography (CT). He specializes in critical care, adult clinical cardiology, non-invasive cardiac imaging and advanced cardiac imaging. He has clinical interests in the diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperlipidemia (high fat levels in the blood) and arrhythmias.
Dr. Mawardi has been named a Top Doctor by Northern Virginia Magazine.
He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his medical degree at East Carolina University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Mawardi has conducted research in dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) and anticoagulation post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). He has also researched selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) therapy and the left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Other research studies include: long-term implantable cardiac rhythm devices post-heart transplant; chronic total occlusion (CTO); obesity and heart disease; cardiac support devices; the use of echo to optimize atrioventricular (AV) synchronization with leadless pacemakers; ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) quality improvement; and quality improvement in medicine.
