“Neurological problems can be complex and frustrating. It brings me great joy to help establish a correct diagnosis and work together to improve a patient’s quality of life.”
Nelson is a board-certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner who specializes in headaches and neurocognitive disorders such as dementia in older adults. Her commitment to listening to patients and her willingness to go above and beyond have earned her two patient’s choice awards: a 2017 Patient's Choice Award for Top Performing Advanced Clinical Provider and a 2019 Highest Patient Satisfaction Score for Advanced Practice Providers in Neurology.
Growing up, Nelson witnessed the compassionate care her mother and grandmother received for their chronic illnesses. That care inspired her to pursue a path where she could provide hope and support for others who have chronic illnesses.
Nelson loves the complexities and challenges of neurology. Her passion for treating headaches and dementia comes from a desire to reduce the stigmas around these conditions and increase understanding, knowledge and quality of life for her patients.
She received her master’s degree in nursing from Duke University.
Outside of work, Nelson enjoys spending time with her husband and her pug, Percy. She loves going to country music concerts, the beach and South Carolina football games.
