Biography

“My philosophy can be summed up in the Latin term, Magis. The fundamental idea of Magis is that we try to do more, better and greater - not for ourselves, but for others. I strive to bring this level of commitment to my patients and my practice.”

Dr. Lewis is board certified in gastroenterology (GI). He has clinical interests in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett's esophagus (abnormal changes in the cells lining the esophagus), endoscopic ultrasounds, endoscopic mucosal resection, esophageal radiofrequency ablation, esophageal cancer, pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts and pancreatic cancer.

He is the assistant specialty medical director of gastroenterology and the medical director of endoscopy at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Lewis feels GI is a specialty that affords him the opportunity to help people in acute, life-threatening situations. It also allows for continuity of care because he's able to treat patients with multiple chronic illnesses.

He was named a Top Doctor by Charlotte magazine and SouthPark Magazine and a nominee for Atrium Health Physician of the Quarter. He was named Chief Medical Resident at the University of Virginia and Chief GI Fellow at the University of Michigan.

He received his medical degree at the State University of New York and completed residency at the University of Virginia. Dr. Lewis completed fellowships in gastroenterology at the University of Michigan and advanced endoscopy at Thomas Jefferson University.

His areas of research include risk stratification of patients with lower GI bleeding, improving the efficiency of inpatient GI consultations, clinical and endosonographic predictors of esophageal cancer treatment options and colon cancer screenings.

Outside of work, Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children. They all love watching football, especially the University of Michigan Wolverines, and they are Carolina Panthers season ticket holders. He also likes cycling, skiing, tennis, barbequing and fishing.
