Biography
“I am fascinated by the brain and enjoy working with children, being a kid at heart myself. The field of pediatric neuropsychology, which is the study of brain-behavior relationships across development, is the perfect combination of these interests.”
Joanna B. Peters is a licensed psychologist who holds a doctorate in clinical psychology with a concentration in neuropsychology. She specializes in pediatric neuropsychology. She is board certified in clinical neuropsychology and a board-certified subspecialist in pediatric neuropsychology through the American Academy of Professional Psychology.
Peters’ clinical interests include the neuropsychological assessment and intervention of pediatric brain tumors, pediatric hematology and oncology (cancer and blood disorders), traumatic brain injury, neurocutaneous conditions and autism spectrum disorder.
She is passionate about treating children and young adults, but she has training in the neuropsychological assessment of individuals across their lifespan with a range of medical, developmental and psychological conditions.
Peters received her doctorate at Yeshiva University with a minor in neuropsychology. She completed her internship at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University and a fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Although primarily performing clinical work at this time, Peters’ research interests and experience include pediatric neuro-oncology, neurophysiology, cognitive effects of sedation in neuro-oncology and autism spectrum disorder. She is active in the Children’s Oncology Group as well as in efforts in training and mentorship both locally and nationally.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her husband, 3 sons and their pets. She enjoys cooking and sharing meals with friends and family. She and her family love to travel and visit the beaches of their childhoods in the Hamptons and at the New Jersey shore.
