Biography

“I enjoy the challenge of helping patients and their families with these complex conditions.”

Dr. Barkenbus is board certified in psychiatry and brain injury medicine with specialties in neuropsychiatry and dementia, including Alzheimer’s, Lewy body dementia and Pick’s disease. He provides cognitive assessment and medication management for these and other neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, stroke, severe brain injury, epilepsy and adults with developmental disabilities. Additionally, he is skilled in geriatric psychiatry with a focus on late life psychosis and medication related movement disorders.

He is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association.

He received his medical degree from Indiana University and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina.

Outside of work, he loves spending time with his wife, 2 children and their dog. He enjoys hiking, music, movies and jogging.
