Biography

Dr. Frederick graduated from the University of Texas and the University of Texas Medical School at Houston with honors. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. During this period, he completed a two- year basic science research fellowship receiving independent funding from both the National Institutes of Health and the American College of Surgeons. His research focused on angiogenic cell therapy in murine models of ischemic heart failure resulting in multiple presentations and publications in prominent peer reviewed journals. Additionally, he was named a finalist for the Vivian Thomas Young Investigator Award by the American Heart Association.

He completed his cardiothoracic surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania as well, following which he completed additional fellowship training in complex aortic surgery including endovascular therapies for aortic valve replacement and aneurysmal disease of the thoracic aorta.

In collaboration with Dr. Frank Arko, Dr. Frederick is the Co-director of the Center for Aortic Disease at Atrium Health’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. In addition to routine adult cardiovascular surgery, he specializes in minimally invasive approaches to aortic valve repair or replacement, valve sparing aortic root replacement, and surgical correction of thoracic aortic disease including aneurysmal disease of the ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending, and thoracoabdominal aorta. He also specializes in endovascular catheter-based therapies which include transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR).
