Justin Taylor Smith, MD

Dr. Smith is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic repair and reconstructive surgery of sports-related injuries to the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle; cartilage repair and restoration; orthobiologic therapy; joint preservation and complex shoulder replacement.

He finds fulfillment in being able to provide treatments based on the rapid advancement of technology and research in orthopedic medicine. Dr. Smith values working as a team with other allied health professionals to facilitate exceptional patient care. He strives to be able, affable and available.

Dr. Smith is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, American Journal of Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine and Video Journal of Sports Medicine. He has written several orthopedic sports book chapters and numerous journal articles. His other research topics include rotator cuff repair, hip arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, ACL, shoulder instability and labral repair, proximal humerus fracture and knee osteotomy.

He has served as a team physician for the major and minor league Colorado Rockies baseball teams, among many others. These include the Greenville Liberty Soccer Club and the University of Georgia NCAA Division 1 football team.

Dr. Smith received his medical degree at Oakland University. He completed residency in orthopedic surgery at Beaumont Health and a fellowship in orthopedic sports surgery with a concentration in complex shoulder, elbow, hip and knee surgery at Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas.

Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his wife. They are avid hikers, backpackers, whitewater enthusiasts and travelers.
