Biography

“I love caring for people, and I truly enjoy the relationships with my patients and their families. I believe in trying to help my patients to have the best life possible – seizure control and quality of life are equally important.”

Dr. Van Poppel is board certified in child neurology, neurodiagnostics and epilepsy. She specializes in intractable epilepsy, tuberous sclerosis, surgical treatment of epilepsy and dietary therapies for epilepsy. She serves as the director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Program for Atrium Health Levine Children’s, the Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic and the Ketogenic (Keto) Diet Program at Atrium Health.

She has been recognized as a Charlotte magazine Top Doctor for multiple years and is a member of the Professional Advisory Board for the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance.

She received her medical degree at Indiana University and completed her residency and fellowship at The University of Tennessee.

Outside of work, Dr. Van Poppel loves spending time with her husband and 2 children. They love spending time at the lake and being on the water. She likes to read, especially mysteries, and enjoys discovering new music.
