“My goal is to help patients better understand their surgical interventions and options so they can be prepared for their procedures.”
Katherine Whitton is a board-certified adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP). She focuses on urology and oncology.
In her previous job as a bedside nurse, she had the opportunity to assist a urologist with a difficult procedure. That experience inspired her to study the full range of urology care and interventions available to patients.
Whitton is the director of the Atrium Health Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship in Urology, and she received a Don Allen Service Award from the Department of Urology. Her research interests include enhanced recovery after surgery protocols and same-day discharge for abdominal surgical interventions.
Whitton received a bachelor’s degree in public health at Brandeis University. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Away from work, she and her partner enjoy hiking with their 2 children and spending as much time as possible near water.
