Kristen Barnette-Fetty is a board-certified adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (AGPCNP). She specializes in hospice and palliative care (symptom relief and end-of-life care).
Her decision to pursue palliative care arose from her conviction that education is integral to health care. Palliative care enables her to deliver not only comfort, but also to equip patients and their families with essential information to help with decision-making during challenging circumstances. Upholding compassion and transparent communication are also central to her approach in providing comprehensive care.
Barnette-Fetty has completed doctoral work on the utilization of a palliative educational guide to foster timely referrals to palliative care in long-term care facilities among adults aged 65 and older. The work reflects the importance of integrating education into health care and improving access to compassionate, appropriate care for vulnerable older adults.
Barnette-Fetty received her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Cincinnati and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Winston-Salem State University.
She is an avid regional and international hiker, and nature is where she recharges. She and her husband love adventuring and seeking out new experiences to inspire growth, connection and balance. Barnette-Fetty stays grounded and finds fresh perspective, both personally and professionally, by exploring different landscapes and cultures.
