Biography

“It is my goal to be of service to someone, even just one person, every single day. Medicine allows me to do that.”

Dr. Strawhun is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. She has clinical interests in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic cough, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, shortness of breath, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer and critical illnesses requiring admission to an intensive care unit.

She is the chairperson for the Medical Ethics Committee at Atrium Health Pineville, the former medical director of Critical Care and the former chief of Medical Specialties at Atrium Health Pineville. Dr. Strawhun was named Physician of the Year at Atrium Health Pineville.

She has always loved critical care medicine and realized early in her training what a positive impact critical care doctors can have on patients and their families during a very stressful time. She is a data-driven person, and she enjoys helping manage the medical information a patient has to process in the intensive care unit.

Dr. Strawhun’s interest in pulmonary medicine began when she realized the benefit she could provide by helping someone identify and treat their lung disease.

She received her medical degree and completed residency at Indiana University, where she was chief resident. Following her chief year, she completed a dual fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Dr. Strawhun was born and raised in Indiana, along the shores of Lake Michigan. She is widely traveled and has practiced medicine in Ireland and Kenya.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband at new restaurants and breweries.  She loves to exercise and take her dogs on long hikes at Crowder's Mountain or the U.S. National Whitewater Center. If she can’t be outside, she enjoys a good crime documentary and knitting and crocheting.
