Biography
“It is very rewarding to repair broken bones and restore function to patients with injuries ranging from the most common to the most severe. In a matter of minutes to hours in the operating room, I can see positive effects resulting from my efforts.”
Dr. Kempton is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He specializes in treating fractures, traumatic injuries, shoulder reconstructions and bones that are not healing properly.
Dr. Kempton is associate program director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He is director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Medical Student Program and co-chair of the Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute Quality Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Trauma Fellowship faculty.
His awards include the Annual Resident Faculty Teaching Award from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and the Annual Medical Student Teaching Award from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
His research interests focus on value-based care in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic trauma patient clinical outcomes. He values the opportunity to help restore people to health by developing treatment plans tailored for the unique needs of each individual patient.
Dr. Kempton received his medical degree at the University of Illinois. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at William Beaumont Hospital and an orthopedic trauma fellowship at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children, cooking and playing the guitar.
