Biography

Dr. Sigmon is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
He specializes in comprehensive gastroenterology, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD),
eosinophilic esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus), hiatal hernias, fecal microbiota transplants for C. difficile colitis, anal fissures, internal hemorrhoids and hemorrhoid banding.
Additionally, Dr. Sigmon treats inflammation and infections in the digestive tract such as H. Pylori, ulcers, celiac disease, small intestine bacterial overgrowth, Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative and microscopic colitis and C. difficile infections.
He is the site-based director of Gastroenterology at Atrium Health Mercy. Dr. Sigmon received an Atrium Health/Medallia Top 16 Provider Award for Patient Satisfaction.
He chose to pursue a career in gastroenterology because it allows him to use both internal medicine principles and procedural skills to help heal patients and improve their quality of life.
Dr. Sigmon’s research interests include recurrent C. difficile infections and fecal microbiota transplants.
He received his medical degree and completed residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was the chief resident in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship at Wake Forest University, where he served as chief fellow.
Outside of work, Dr. Sigmon enjoys spending time with his wife, 3 boys and their chocolate Labrador retriever. He enjoys fly fishing, snow skiing, coaching his boys' sports teams and watching all kinds of sporting events.
