Biography

“I enjoy working one-on-one with individual patients to improve their health. I also appreciate being involved in advancing the evidence base of medicine on a large scale through my research work.”

Shade is a board-certified physician assistant specializing in family medicine. She has a clinical interest in women’s health and pediatrics.

She won an Atrium Health Teal Acorn Academic Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) Award and was a finalist for the ACP Award twice. She was also recognized as a Gold Touchstone Award winner and a Silver Touchstone Award winner at Atrium Health Quality and Service Sharing Days. Additionally, she won a Charlotte Business Journal Excellence in Health Care Award for Innovations and Advancements.

Shade has been awarded recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for patient-centered care in medical home.

She has been involved in nearly 30 research studies over the past decade and leads the PREVENTABLE Study (Pragmatic Evaluation of Events and Benefits of Lipid-lowering in Older Adults). Shade’s current research focuses on chronic disease management, improving participants’ outcomes and using participatory methods, including shared decision-making.

She completed her physician assistant training at Duke University.

Outside of work, Shade enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children. Her hobbies include running, practicing yoga and making jewelry.
