Biography
“I was put on this earth to take care of other people's children. My background in pediatric nutrition led me to pediatric gastroenterology as well as pediatric obesity management.”
Dr. Summers is board certified in pediatrics with a specialty in pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology. She is skilled in treating pediatric and adolescent obesity and gastrointestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease.
She is the pediatric medical advisor for the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
Dr. Summers uses a multidisciplinary approach to treating her patients, often consulting with dietitians, fitness experts, social workers and pediatric psychologists.
She received her registered dietitian (RD) degree at the University of California San Francisco. She received her medical degree and completed her residency at the University of South Florida and completed a fellowship at Harvard University.
Dr. Summers is involved in research called Improve Care Now, which studies pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 sons. She loves swimming, walking, watching her children play sports and going to the beach.
