Biography

As an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, I have the privilege of helping patients get back to the activities they love, whether that means returning to the field, getting back to a favorite workout, or simply moving through everyday life without pain.

My path to medicine began in nursing. As a bedside registered nurse, I experienced firsthand how meaningful it is to care for patients during some of their most challenging moments. That hands-on experience was one of the most rewarding chapters of my career, but it also inspired me to take on a greater role in helping patients understand and overcome their injuries. That drive ultimately led me to pursue medicine.

I have served as an assistant team physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, University of Pittsburgh, New York University, Long Island University, and Duquesne University.

Today, I treat sports-related conditions affecting the knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip. While I have extensive training in minimally invasive and surgical techniques, I believe the best treatment is not always surgery. My approach is individualized to each patient’s anatomy, history, activity level, and goals, drawing on evidence-based nonoperative, minimally invasive, and operative treatments to help each person achieve the best possible outcome.

As a former athlete myself, I understand that an injury is about more than a diagnosis. It can mean missing a season, changing the way you exercise, or being unable to do the activities that are an important part of your life. My goal is to understand not only where you hurt, but what you want to get back to doing and to build a treatment plan around those goals.

I’m also passionate about mentorship, surgical education, and advancing the field of orthopedic sports medicine. I have published research in leading orthopedic journals and continue to contribute to the academic growth of our specialty. Staying engaged in research and education allows me to continually refine my approach and bring the latest evidence to the care of my patients.

When you see me, we will take the time to understand your injury and how it is affecting your life. Together, we will discuss your options, determine the right options for you, and make sure you know what to expect at every stage of your recovery. My experience as a nurse, surgeon, athlete, educator, and researcher has shaped that philosophy and it continues to shape how I care for every patient I meet.
