Biography

I really enjoy taking care of all members of a family, everyone from newborns to elders. There’s nothing more satisfying than building ongoing relationships with patients, seeing them put in the work to change their health and celebrating with them when they reach their goals.

I’m board certified in family medicine. Conditions I treat include diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, mental health issues, musculoskeletal injuries and sleep issues. I am skilled in performing office procedures. I also provide care for nutrition, exercise, mind-body health, mindfulness, healthy aging, sexual health, pre-pregnancy wellness and fertility optimization and weight loss. Additionally, I have clinical interests in integrative, rural, wilderness, travel, hospital and academic medicine.

With a strong love of adventure, I was drawn to family medicine because every day is different and there’s always an interesting new challenge or puzzle to figure out.

I serve on the clinical faculty for the Atrium Health Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program.

I have completed research related to the benefit of expressive writing on clinician-patient relationships and other outcomes in the acute care setting and research comparing how different countries’ public health systems, including screening programs, impact celiac disease awareness and timely diagnosis.

I previously worked as a registered dietitian and received multiple scholarships and grants during my training to become a physician.

I received a master’s degree in nutrition summa cum laude with distinction in research at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where I also completed a fellowship in dietetics and integrative medicine. I received my medical degree with distinction in basic science at the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University. I completed residency at John Peter Smith Hospital, and during this residency, I completed additional training in integrative medicine through the University of Arizona Integrative Medicine Center.

Away from work, I enjoy getting outdoors with my husband and 2 friendly golden retrievers. I like nature photography, hiking, kayaking, yoga and cooking. I especially love traveling with my husband to visit family in his home country of Costa Rica.
