Biography

“The field of cardiology is fascinating to me. Having the opportunity to share what I've learned to help patients and other healthcare providers has been an amazing privilege.”

Dr. Scherer is board certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography and cardiovascular computed tomography. He is skilled in evaluation and treatment strategies for coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and atrial fibrillation, as well as less common cardiac disorders through diagnostic imaging and intraprocedural imaging guidance.

Dr. Scherer is the director of Cardiac CT and Structural Heart Imaging at Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. He was a finalist for the Atrium Health Pinnacle Award.

He is fascinated by cardiovascular disease processes and has learned through his career there are many opportunities in the field of cardiology to improve quality of life for patients.

Dr. Scherer's passion in diagnostic and procedural imaging helps him diagnose a broad range of patients’ problems and collaborate with other doctors and healthcare providers to provide treatment plans.

He is also involved in training other providers within his field and in clinical trials requiring imaging for structural heart and catheter-based therapies and coronary artery disease.

Dr. Scherer received his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his cardiovascular disease fellowship at Rush University in Chicago.

Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, exercising, playing games and watching movies and TV shows with his wife and daughters.
