Dr. Mellar Davis is board certified in internal medicine, hematology (blood disorders), oncology (cancer) and palliative medicine (symptom relief).
Recognizing that patients with advanced illnesses can experience a loss of capability or their sense of self, he personalizes care to facilitate resilience, reduce suffering and help patients meet goals that adhere to their values.
Dr. Davis is the section head of palliative medicine at Atrium Health Levine Cancer.
His research interests include cancer pain and fatigue, anorexia and cachexia, opioid pharmacology and palliative medicine service development.
Dr. Davis has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. He has received the MD Anderson Cancer Center Award for outstanding contribution in the field of cancer pain and the Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor given by the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC). He was twice named a Palliative Medicine Teacher of the Year at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Davis received his bachelor’s degree at Otterbein College and his medical degree at The Ohio State University. He completed residency in hematology and oncology at the Mayo Clinic.
He enjoys spending his time away from work with his wife and their 6 talented children. Dr. Davis’s hobbies include exercising, gardening and learning about Biblical history and theology.
