Burris is a board-certified adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner. She specializes in dementia, aging in place and hospice and palliative (end of life) care.
Her work in critical care motivated her to specialize in working with elderly patients, with a focus on preventing or shortening hospitalizations.
Her research interests include nursing shortages, diversity and recruitment issues.
Burris received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at East Carolina University.
She is married with a son. Outside of work, she enjoys exercising, traveling and spending time with the 2 Great Danes she refers to as her babies.
