Biography
“I believe surgery is not just about fixing a problem, but about helping people get back to the life and activities that matter most to them. My philosophy is to treat each patient as I would a family member – with honesty, respect and compassion. Every decision I make is guided by the goal of restoring health in a way that supports long-term well-being and peace of mind.”
Dr. Michael Katzen is trained in general surgery. He has expertise in minimally invasive gastrointestinal and abdominal wall surgeries, including surgeries on the gallbladder, stomach, bowel and groin.
He chose general surgery because he loves helping people in a direct and meaningful way. Surgery gives him the chance to solve problems and see the difference it makes for patients. Dr. Katzen enjoys the variety of procedures and the opportunities to care for people through some of the most important moments in their lives.
He has presented research both nationally and internationally on surgical quality.
Dr. Katzen received his medical degree at the University of Central Florida and completed residency in general surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. The family especially likes traveling together, exploring new places and cultures. Dr. Katzen also enjoys cooking and staying active through regular exercise.
