Biography

“I am amazed by the science of the heart and how technology can treat and sometimes cure abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). I believe it is important to talk to every patient and learn how their arrhythmia affects their life. My hope is to develop lasting relationships with patients and help them manage their health in a way that aligns with their goals.”

Dr. Michael Zimmerman is board certified in internal medicine. He specializes in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. His clinical interests include cardiac electrophysiology, bradycardia (slow heart rate), tachycardia (rapid heart rate), atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, cardiac ablation, implantable cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators, cardiac device monitoring and PVCs (premature ventricular contractions).

Dr. Zimmerman originally majored in biomedical engineering at Duke University, which led him to a job as a pacemaker and defibrillator technician. That experience inspired him to enroll in medical school with the goal of becoming an electrophysiologist.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Zimmerman received his undergraduate degree at Duke University and his medical degree at Louisiana State University. He completed residency at Tulane University and fellowships in cardiology and electrophysiology at the University of Virginia.

He and his wife enjoy trying new restaurants and seeing live music. They have a daughter who loves going to the park and the pool. Dr. Zimmerman enjoys sports and the outdoors, including running, biking, golf, basketball, softball and more recently, pickleball.
