Biography

“I have always loved interacting with children and their caregivers, helping to treat their illnesses, teaching them how to stay healthy and advocating for their needs to help them grow up healthy and strong. All children, no matter their background, have so much potential to grow, learn and make contributions to the world.”

Dr. Michelle Hoffman is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases. Conditions she treats include bone, joint, skin, soft tissue and congenital infections, such as cytomegalovirus (CMV), syphilis and herpes simplex (HSV). Additionally, she treats recurrent fevers, latent tuberculosis infections and immunodeficiencies. She provides travel medicine and pre- and post-transplant evaluations.

She is the director of outpatient services for pediatric infectious diseases at Atrium Health.

She was drawn to the field of pediatric infectious diseases because it gives her opportunities to spend time with patients, listen to their histories and investigate their symptoms, ultimately treating conditions that children usually recover from fully. She values the opportunity to teach patients and their families about how to prevent childhood infections.

Dr. Hoffman received her bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Rochester and her medical degree at the University of Chicago.

She completed residency in pediatrics at Creighton-Nebraska Universities Health Foundation, where she was chief resident, and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Nebraska.

Outside of work, Dr. Hoffman likes concerts, theater, hiking, camping, enjoying nature and exploring the outdoors with her husband. She considers herself a grown-up kid who still loves all things Disney.
