Biography

Dr. Omar Esponda is board certified in internal medicine. He specializes in vascular medicine and phlebology (diseases and disorders of the arteries and veins). He is skilled in the management of acute and chronic deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and comprehensive workups and medical optimization of patients with superficial and deep venous obstructions. Procedures he performs include superficial venous closures, sclerotherapy and phlebectomy (vein treatments). Additionally, Dr. Esponda is a registered physician in vascular interpretation (RPVI) and a registered phlebology sonographer (RPhS).

Early in his training, his mentors encouraged him to practice vascular medicine. He remains inspired by the ongoing advancements that offer new hope for conditions once deemed untreatable or difficult to manage. Dr. Esponda has a deep passion for engaging in meaningful patient interactions and long-term care relationships. He values the ability to educate and mentor the next generation of medical professionals.

Dr. Esponda’s research interests include education in venous diseases and enhancing patient care through academic pursuits.

Dr. Esponda received his medical degree at the Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where he also completed residency in internal medicine. He completed a vascular medicine fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and a phlebology surgery fellowship at New York University Langone Medical Center.

Outside of work, his wife and 2 children are passionate about playing soccer because it allows them to connect on a fun and active level while also teaching teamwork, strategic thinking and resilience. They love being outdoors and sharing activities to maintain a work-life balance.
