Biography

“I want to help people learn to care for themselves. I believe primary care holds the key for helping patients care for all their problems as an entity. I frequently see specialists as only treating one small problem instead of addressing multiple complicated problems and striving for that balance that is often necessary for overall health.”

Dr. Melton-Smith is board certified in internal medicine. She is skilled in treating hypertension, diabetes, lipid disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, hypertension, congestive heart failure and all complicated internal medicine problems.

When Dr. Melton-Smith started her residency, her hometown was in desperate need for primary care doctors. She wanted to be involved in all areas of her patients’ care and follow them throughout their lives.

She received her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a residency at Vanderbilt University.

In her spare time, she loves horseback riding and competing in extreme cowboy racing. She has a farm and enjoys time with her animals, including horses, dogs and cats.
