Biography
“Children are one of the most vulnerable populations, yet one that makes me optimistic. I am dedicated to working with children and their families to start the healing and growth process early and possibly change their trajectory in life. I hope to not only be a health care provider, but also serve as an advocate for my patients and strengthen my commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Dr. Rikinkumar S. Patel is board certified in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. His clinical interests include neurodevelopmental disorders, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood disorders and psychopharmacology.
Dr. Patel feels that early life experiences can shape the way patients live with their behavioral health challenges. As a result, it is important for providers to understand what factors led to their patient’s behavior and learn pattern recognition. This is not treating a person, but it is a collaboration with family and caregivers in order to change their trajectory in a positive way.
He has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Resident Award by the National Institutes of Mental Health, the Research Colloquium Award in Psychopharmacology by the American Psychiatric Association, the Data Blitz Award by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Lois T. Flaherty Best Research Paper Award by the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry. With his significant contribution to psychiatric research work, he has been nominated as a top 10th percentile published clinician by Doximity in 2022 and 2023.
Dr. Patel received his medical degree at Gujarat University in India and his master's degree in public health at Arcadia University. He completed residency in adult psychiatry at Oklahoma State University and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Duke University.
Away from work, Dr. Patel enjoys exploring multi-cuisine restaurants, countryside drives, hiking and strolling along the boardwalk at the beach.
