Biography

Dr. Lutz is board certified in emergency and sports medicine. He specializes in acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries of the ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows and hands. He also specializes in sport concussion evaluation and management as well as ultrasound-guided procedures.
Dr. Lutz won the Atrium Health Teal Acorn “Rookie of the Year” Award.
He’s involved in research on concussion in sports and currently has a paper pending publication in Current Sports Medicine Reports on ACL injuries following return to play from concussion. In addition, Dr. Lutz is involved in a project looking at concussion and coaching culture. Finally, he’s working on a Department of Defense-funded project on neck injuries due to use of helmets and night vision goggles.
Dr. Lutz received his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and completed a residency at Madigan Army Medical Center. He completed a fellowship at Duke University.
Outside of work, he and his wife train and provide service dogs at no cost to veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through their non-profit organization.
