Biography
“I had childhood asthma and wanted to grow up one day to be just like my pediatric pulmonologist. He made sure my asthma did not limit my ability to play sports and lead a normal life.”
Dr. Megalaa is board certified in pediatrics with specialties in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine.
She specializes in sleep apnea, narcolepsy, hypersomnia (excessive sleepiness), insomnia, night terrors, restless legs syndrome, sleepwalking, asthma, chronic lung disease and sickle cell-related pulmonary disease.
During her pediatric pulmonology fellowship, she fell in love with sleep medicine. She learned that prioritizing sleep and treating sleep disorders can be life changing for children and their families.
Dr. Megalaa received her degree in osteopathic medicine at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed residency at Maimonides Medical Center and fellowships at Children’s National Hospital and George Washington University.
Her research interests include asthma and obstructive sleep apnea and viral infections in young children.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her husband, son and 2 dogs. They enjoy traveling, taking their dogs out for walks, cooking and spending time with family.
