Biography

“I was drawn to sleep medicine after seeing how much better patients feel once their sleep disorders are treated. I was blessed to train under mentors who knew a great deal about sleep and wrote textbooks on topics in sleep medicine.”

Dr. Ryals is board certified in internal medicine and sleep medicine. He specializes in treating obstructive, central and complex sleep apnea; narcolepsy with and without cataplexy (sudden loss of muscle tone); idiopathic hypersomnia; restless legs syndrome; periodic limb movement disorder; REM behavior disorder; parasomnias (walking or talking while asleep); and insomnia.

He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Emory University and his medical degree at Tulane University. He completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine, followed by a sleep fellowship at the University of Florida.

He was named Exemplary Teacher by the University of Florida College of Medicine and received the Excellence in Patient Satisfaction Award - Top Decile Satisfaction Performer from University of Florida Health. He is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (FAASM).
