Sonia Marie Abuzakhm, MD

Dr. Abuzakhm is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. She specializes in adult hematology-oncology (cancer and blood disorders), with a focus on breast cancer and GI cancer.

Dr. Abuzakhm focuses on delivering excellent medical care that is both evidence-based and individualized to a patient’s goals and values.

During medical school at Northeast Ohio Medical University, Dr. Abuzakhm was selected to be a member of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Gold Humanism Honor Society for her compassionate care.

She received a Resident Teaching Award from The Ohio State University in recognition of teaching her peers and brings this passion for educating others to her patients and their families. Following her internal medicine residency, she completed a hematology & oncology fellowship at The Ohio State University.

Prior to joining Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute, Dr. Abuzakhm practiced hematology/oncology in Columbus, Ohio. During her time in that community, she received distinctions as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in medical oncology and as a Castle Connolly Exceptional Women in Medicine for multiple years.

When she isn’t at work, Dr. Abuzakhm enjoys yoga, reading and spending time with her husband, Dr. Robert Zsoldos, and their son.
