Biography

“Hematological oncology and blood disorders are potentially life-altering conditions and require critical thinking and attention to detail for best outcomes. I bring that critical thinking to my work. The opportunity to diagnose, treat and potentially cure these challenging conditions is what makes my job fulfilling.”

Dr. Sanikommu is board certified in internal medicine and hematology-oncology (cancer and blood disorders). He has clinical interests in myelodysplastic syndrome (a disorder caused by blood cells that are poorly formed or don't work properly), acute myeloid leukemia (cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (diseases in which the bone marrow makes too many red or white blood cells or platelets). He also has special interests in aplastic anemia (bone marrow failure), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (destruction of red blood cells, blood clots and impaired bone marrow function) and clonal hematopoiesis (a condition in which blood cells reproduce with a genetic mutation).

He has been recognized by Business North Carolina as a Top Doctor. He speaks English, Hindi and Telugu.

Dr. Sanikommu has conducted research on large granular lymphocytic leukemia (LGL) and studied genomics of therapy-related myeloid neoplasms. Dr. Sanikommu has also published research titled, “Higher Incidence of Hemorrhagic Cystitis in Patients with Haplo Identical Transplantation.”

He received his medical degree at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and completed residency at Michigan State University. He completed a fellowship in hematology-oncology at Atrium Health's Levine Cancer Institute and a fellowship in translational hematology and oncology research at Cleveland Clinic.

Outside of work, Dr. Sanikommu enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children. As a family, they enjoy outdoor activities like biking and hiking.
