“In many cultures, it is considered taboo to talk about gastrointestinal distress. I hope to create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable discussing these difficult-to-talk-about symptoms so we can get to the root of the problem and fix it.”
Lowder is a board-certified physician assistant with a specialty in gastroenterology. She has clinical interests in a variety of gastrointestinal (GI) issues, including colon polyps, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, pancreatitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), anemia and food sensitivities.
Additionally, Lowder treats liver cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, hemorrhoids, anal fissures and other GI bleeding. She has ongoing clinical experience with capsule endoscopy interpretations, a procedure that uses a tiny wireless camera to take pictures of a patient’s digestive tract.
She feels that many people assume their gastrointestinal issues are normal, including infrequent bowel movements, bowel incontinence, trouble swallowing and unexplained cough. But these are all conditions that can be treated.
Lowder received her physician assistant training at Wingate University.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her daughter. They enjoy nature, animals, going for walks, swimming, boat and bike rides, drawing, gardening, and most of all, laughing together.
