For minor illnesses, current and new patients can have peace of mind knowing a medical provider is just a video visit away.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 13, 2018 – Atrium Health is now offering free Virtual Visits for those impacted by Hurricane Florence. The healthcare system’s highest priority is the safety and well-being of its patients and communities now, and through the duration of the storm. Those suffering from minor injuries and illnesses such as cold and flu, pinkeye, or urinary tract infections for females, can choose a video visit, which will allow them to speak with a medical provider from the comfort and safety of their home – for free.

“We know many coastal residents are taking shelter far away from their homes,” says Atrium Health’s David Cosenza, MD, Specialty Medical Director, Virtual Visit. “We want these residents, along with our neighbors in our own communities, to know Atrium Health is here to take care of them, should they fall ill during this weather emergency.”

By being one of the nation's leading and most innovative healthcare organizations, Atrium Health is able to waive the regular fee for Virtual Visits completed in North Carolina and South Carolina, starting today, September 13. Patients will need to use the coupon code FLORENCE to receive this discount.

“Patients probably have many questions right now, regarding the storm and their health. By offering free Virtual Visits, Atrium Health hopes their health will be one less thing to worry about during the storm,” said Dr. Cosenza. “We have worked closely with our information services department and our partner AmericanWell to ensure patients have this technology available, at no cost, should they need it.”

Virtual Care is a video visit that connects patients with a medical provider within minutes, for live, face-to-face expert care. It’s easy, convenient and secure, and not appointment is necessary. Current and new patients can log on 24-hours a day from a smartphone, tablet or video-enabled computer to begin a Virtual Visit.

Atrium Health recommends the public download the app now, so it is already on their device, should the need for a Virtual Visit arise. More information and more detailed instructions are available at AtriumHealth.org/VirtualVisit.
