Media Advisory Carolinas MED-1 Returns from Hurricane Florence Deployment
CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 27, 2018– After nearly two weeks serving the community of Pender County, Carolinas MED-1 is deactivating and returning to Charlotte. A one-of-a-kind mobile unit, MED-1 was requested in Burgaw, North Carolina where the local hospital was closed during and after Hurricane Florence. During MED-1’s station in Burgaw, the staff from Pender Memorial have provided important support during the deployment. Atrium Health is grateful for their partnership and will continue to provide any assistance needed while the community in Pender County continues to recover.
More than 30 teammates, including doctors, nurses and other critical medical staff, deployed from Charlotte on Sunday, September 16 and arrived in Burgaw the following day. MED-1 staff treated more than 900 patients, including delivering two babies in the mobile emergency deployment.
