Traffic Pattern Changes Expected at Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast
CONCORD, N.C., February 5, 2019 – Beginning Monday, February 11, visitors to Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast, part of Atrium Health, may notice changes to traffic patterns due to construction. A new water line is being run as part of the facility’s modernization project, and will impact traffic along Medical Park Drive NE, adjacent to the medical campus.
During regular business hours, it is anticipated that Medical Park Drive NE will be reduced to one lane of traffic. In addition, some of the entrances, including the main entrance to the hospital, visitor and employee parking decks, and the entrance to the Mariam Cannon Hayes Women’s Center will be impacted by this modernization project. Certified traffic flaggers will be on site to assist drivers around the construction and help reduce any delays or disruptions to patients, visitors and teammates. Visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly and factor in any extra time needed when visiting the hospital.
Carolinas HealthCare NorthEast is nearing the final stages of phase two of a multi-million-dollar improvement plan. Phase two includes a new four-story tower for the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. Construction includes replacing labs, outpatient diagnostic areas, pre- and post- operating areas and replacing 60 in-patient beds with additional space for future growth. In 2017, the hospital completed a $16 million-dollar renovation to the Women’s Center to improve care for local women, expectant moms and families. Upgrades to the Mariam Cannon Hayes Women’s’ Center include a new NICU parent lounge and private maternity suites.
