Ability to attract, retain and develop IT staff lands Atrium Health in the top 50 for the seventh year.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 20, 2019 – Today, Atrium Health was named to IDG's Computerworld 2019 Best Places to Work in IT. The designation is based on the excellence and quality of the IT workplace, recognizing Atrium Health as a top 100 organization that challenges IT staff while providing great benefits and compensation. Atrium Health's ability to attract, retain and develop IT staff, along with competitive benefits, career development and teammates' desire to work at Atrium Health, led to the ranking of number 48 among large organizations on the Best Places to Work in IT list.

"We are honored to be recognized once again as Computerworld's 2019 List of 100 Best Places to Work in IT," said Jonathan Bowers, vice president of information services at Atrium Health. "Retaining high performing teammates and top decile engagement scores, nationally, in IT is an accomplishment our teammates should be proud of. Without their continued hard work, this recognition, for the seventh year, wouldn't be possible."

Examples of how IT makes a difference not only at Atrium Health, but more importantly for our patients include:

  • In the wake of a national opioid crisis, Atrium Health's IT team partnered with physician leaders to leverage our electronic medical record system to alert physicians when a patient may have a prior issue with pain medication. Having this type of alert system in place has helped physicians decide against issuing an opioid prescription in many cases.
  • As Hurricane Florence approached the east coast in 2018, Atrium Health's IT Health Information Exchange team worked quickly to electronically connect our system to Georgia, allowing displaced patients to be fully cared for, while away from home.

"The market for IT talent remains very tight, and employers continue to focus on finding and holding on to the best people," said Computerworld executive editor Ken Mingis. "Our 2019 survey shows again that the Best Places to Work in IT are dynamic organizations that provide top pay and a broad array of programs and benefits designed to make them attractive places to work. Many show that they have a commitment to training, to diversity and to improved communication and teamwork."

The Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals by IDG's Computerworld. The list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
