New urgent care location brings expert care closer to home for Indian Land residents

CHARLOTTE, N.C., December 3, 2020 – A new Atrium Health urgent care facility is now open. Atrium Health Urgent Care – Red Stone, located in Indian Land, South Carolina, opened on November 30, operating from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., seven days a week.

With the opening of Atrium Health Urgent Care – Red Stone, Indian Land residents now have direct access to urgent care services just minutes away. Indian Land is located east of Fort Mill and just south of Ballantyne in South Charlotte – an area previously in need of additional access to care. With its convenient location off Highway 521, directly in front of RedStone Mall, this new facility is strategically located and designed to provide expert medical care close to home for those who live in and near this community.

“We look forward to bringing expert urgent care services closer to home for our neighbors and patients in this area of South Carolina,” said Michael Staples, assistant vice president of Atrium Health Medical Group. “The opening of this new facility is a testament to our commitment to expand access to quality healthcare for patients beyond the Charlotte metro area and across the Southeast region.”

It’s important to understand the differences between an urgent care and an emergency department. People suffering from a potentially life-threatening illness or injury, such as head and spinal cord trauma, cardiac emergencies, abdominaltrauma or chest pain should always go to the emergency department or call 911. More often, patients can be treated for non-emergent illnesses and injuries at an urgent care location.

The new facility will be staffed by highly trained physicians, physician assistants and nurses and equipped with the latest technology and imaging services to diagnose and treat conditions such as sinus infections and allergies, cold or flu symptoms, minor cuts, burns, skin rashes, animal or insect bites, sprains, minor bone fractures and ear and eye infections.

In addition to traditional urgent care services, several occupational medicine services will also be provided at the new facility, such as workers’ compensation services, drug screens, breath-alcohol testing and tuberculosis screenings.

“Patients are eager for more accessible and convenient care options when they get sick, especially as we approach flu season amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dr. Chris Branner, specialty medical director, Urgent Care Services at Atrium Health. “Our urgent care locations offer extended hours, allowing patients more flexibility to be seen by a provider early in the morning or later in the evening – so they are able to receive the care they need, when they need it, on their schedule.”

The new location will also adhere strictly to system-wide "COVID-Safe" standards, such as rigorous cleaning protocols, advanced screening processes, social distancing regulations in waiting rooms and separate areas for those suspected of having COVID-19. These standards have been put in place to ensure the facility is as safe as possible for all that need care. Simultaneous testing for both flu and COVID-19 is also available at all Atrium Health urgent care locations, with a positive result known in as little as 5 minutes, and a negative result being known in up to 15 minutes. Those who have symptoms of flu or COVID-19 or suspect possible exposure should call ahead or reserve an appointment online, alerting the staff of their symptoms prior to arrival.

This new urgent care facility will reduce the distance between patients and clinical experts and allow for more convenient patient care options. As one of the region’s leading healthcare organizations, Atrium Health is committed to providing health, hope, and healing for all – and to providing safe, convenient care by meeting the patient where they are, whenever they need it.
