Teal Acorn Awards: Celebrating Teammate Excellence within Atrium Health

Fourteen physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs), who strive to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing FOR ALL every day, were honored on Tuesday, March 29, during Atrium Health’s 2022 Teal Acorn Awards.

The awards celebrate and honor teammates who achieve greatness through integrity, commitment to quality and patient care, leadership, innovation, mentoring, diversity and community involvement. Award winners were determined through a rigorous evaluation process by nomination reviewers from across the medical group.

Physician/APP Atrium Health Career Award

The Physician/APP Atrium Health Career Award honors a physician and APP who has demonstrated at least 20 years of exceptional service with Atrium Health and has exemplified the core values of caring, commitment, integrity and teamwork. This year’s recipients stand out through their contributions to quality, practice of medicine, education, patient recognition and/or enhanced professional growth of colleagues.

Physician of the Year Award

The Physician of the Year Award honors and recognizes an Atrium Health physician who achieves greatness through integrity, commitment to quality and patient care, leadership, innovation, mentoring, diversity and community involvement. The recipient represents the best of Atrium Health in a variety of capacities.

APP of the Year Award

The APP of the Year Award honors and recognizes an Atrium Health APP who achieves greatness through integrity, commitment to quality and patient care, leadership, innovation, mentoring, diversity and community involvement. The recipient represents the best of Atrium Health in a variety of capacities.

Tree of Life Physician/APP Innovator of the Year Award

The Tree of Life Innovator Award honors the accomplishments of physicians and APPs who demonstrate extraordinary attention to health care innovation. In the context of this award, innovation involves the deliberate application of information, resources and imagination to develop breakthrough initiatives and create alliances with the intent to produce positive change for all. This includes but is not limited to clinical application, research, quality and patient safety.

Dr. Francis Robicsek Physician/APP Community Impact Award

The Dr. Francis Robicsek Award honors Atrium Health physician/APP leaders whose work with underserved populations resulted in improved health outcomes. This award is the highest accomplishment a provider can receive from Atrium Health in the community impact realm. Those nominated for this award go above and beyond the call of duty inside and outside the walls of Atrium Health, add value to the health of both work and non-work communities and demonstrate core values with their team and patients.

Physician/APP Leader of the Year Award

The Physician/APP Atrium Health Career Award honors and recognizes physician/APP leaders who display an outstanding ability to lead physician/APPs. The winners exemplify the five core values of leadership and practice such behaviors daily. They have excellent listening skills, display a strong vision and model integrity, empathy and optimism to drive results.

Physician/APP Rookie of the Award

The Physician/APP Rookie of the Award honors and recognizes Atrium Health physicians/APPs who demonstrate outstanding contributions to the organization during the beginning of their career (within Atrium Health for three years or less). At the early stage of their career, they are already achieving greatness through integrity, commitment to quality and patient care, leadership, innovation, mentoring, diversity or community involvement. The recipients exemplify the best of Atrium Health in a variety of capacities during their early tenure with the system.
