Atrium Health Welcomes Singapore Nursing Contingent for Virtual Nursing Discussion
Visit highlights expertise of Atrium Health nurses as international leaders in virtual nursing
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 21, 2024 – Atrium Health welcomed a three-person nursing contingent from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore, to several of its locations in the greater Charlotte area to learn about the health care system’s virtual nursing programs. This visit marks a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing efforts to foster international collaboration and share its pioneering work in this space.
"We are thrilled to host our esteemed colleagues from Singapore,” said Patricia Mook, senior vice president, enterprise nursing operations, education and professional development for Advocate Health, which Atrium Health is a part of. “This visit is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of virtual nursing in enhancing patient care and to discuss how these practices can be adapted globally."
The Singaporean nurses, who have received a federal grant from the Singapore government to attend, are engaging with Atrium Health's expert nursing team during a two-week visit to explore cutting-edge virtual nursing practices and to learn about the implementation and benefits of virtual nursing. This initiative is part of Advocate Health's commitment to advancing health care through innovation, knowledge exchange and global partnership.
During the visit, nurse leaders will guide the international guests through in-depth discussions about the role of virtual nursing in health care with live demonstrations of virtual nursing technologies and methodologies. The virtual nursing model has enhanced safety and quality of care by preventing patient slips and falls, reducing errors and increasing patient satisfaction. It has also helped health systems cut down on labor costs and improved nurse retention during a time when many nurses are leaving the profession around the globe.
"We are grateful for the chance to learn from Atrium Health's leadership in virtual nursing,” said Liu Wanzhen, senior nurse manager, at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. “This experience will be invaluable as we seek to implement similar practices at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore to benefit our patients."
The visit underscores Advocate Health's investment in the future of health care, embracing new technologies and methodologies to improve health outcomes. More than 20 hospitals in the Advocate Health network use virtual nurses to manage admissions and discharges and will be adding more hospitals in the near future. New hospital construction includes the capacity to implement virtual care technology. By sharing insights on virtual nursing, Advocate Health aims to build stronger health care networks and foster relationships that transcend borders.
