Atrium Health to Open New Hospital in North Mecklenburg County
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 19, 2025 – Atrium Health Lake Norman will soon welcome its first patients on July 1. The health system’s newest hospital is located close to beautiful Lake Norman and will provide world-class care close to home for the residents and visitors of northern Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas.
“The population of the Lake Norman region is growing rapidly, and the demand for high quality care is growing right alongside it,” said Eugene A. Woods, CEO of Advocate Health, of which Atrium Health is a part. “Now, this community will have access to comprehensive care at a new, state-of-the-art hospital closer to home — improving lives and contributing to the vibrant future of Lake Norman.”
The nearly 200,000 square foot facility is equipped to treat a variety of patients and illnesses. Atrium Health Lake Norman includes a brand-new emergency department open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; a state-of-the-art labor and delivery floor; operating and procedure rooms; laboratory and on-site pharmacy. Additional specialties include:
- Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute orthopedic services
- Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute adult cardiovascular services
- One Health OB-GYN services
- Concierge Medicine
Innovatively engineered and purposefully constructed, Atrium Health Lake Norman is built with the most up-to-date technology available, including secure virtual nursing capabilities and easy in room dining service. Nestled on 33-acres, the hospital is designed with the growing community in mind, leaving room for further expansion. The building also features several art installations inspired by the local landscape and created by local artists including a mural near the healing garden and a light piece in the shape of Lake Norman.
“This hospital was designed with community at the heart,” said Brian M. Wofford, facility executive at Atrium Health Lake Norman. “From the layout of patient rooms to the healing garden, every detail reflects our commitment to the healing journey and providing the best possible care for this community.”
Soon after opening the hospital, Atrium Health Lake Norman, a facility of Atrium Health University City, will open a medical office building providing non-emergency care adjacent to the hospital. Patients can see a number of specialists, including orthopedic, OB-GYN, heart and vascular, general surgery, and pulmonary care.
“The opening this facility is the result of years of planning, partnership and dedication,” said Steve Smoot, president of the North Carolina and Georgia division of Advocate Health. “Countless individuals came together to turn this vision into a reality and as we open our doors on July 1, our teammates and physicians will carry that same spirit of partnership forward — ensuring it lives on in every life that we touch.”
The opening of our new Atrium Health Lake Norman hospital — with a 24/7 emergency room, dozens of inpatient beds, labor and delivery, operating rooms, imaging services, and an onsite lab — is a major milestone for the community, and another example of how Advocate Health is delivering on our purpose to redefine care for all.
