Atrium Health Levine Children’s Combines with Pediatric Surgical Associates to Strengthen Surgical Care
Five highly trusted surgeons and support staff to join team at Levine Children’s Hospital
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 1, 2024 – Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital is strengthening its surgical program with the addition of Pediatric Surgical Associates (PSA), a trusted provider of exceptional surgical care for children in the greater Charlotte community for over 40 years. This integration builds on the longstanding collaboration between Levine Children’s Hospital and PSA, where PSA surgeons have been an integral part of the hospital’s medical staff, performing specialized surgeries for many years.
“With the combined resources of Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Surgical Associates, families in the greater Charlotte area will continue to benefit from advanced, compassionate care and an expanded network of pediatric surgical specialists,” said Dr. Stacy Nicholson, president of Atrium Health Levine Children’s. “This integration will further strengthen our continuous commitment to ensuring that all children receive exceptional, coordinated care close to home.”
Starting Nov. 1, PSA current partners Drs. Daniel Bambini, Nicholas Bruns, Graham Cosper, Thomas Schmelzer and Andrew Schulman, and their team of advanced practice providers, nurses and support staff, will join Atrium Health establishing the new pediatric surgical team at Levine Children’s Hospital. Together, with current pediatric surgeon Dr. Steven Teich, they establish the most advanced and comprehensive pediatric surgery program in the region. This newly formed team will perform all pediatric general, thoracic and minimally invasive procedures at Levine Children’s Hospital. Alongside their dedicated pediatric surgical expertise, patients will have access to pediatric anesthesia, child life support and a wide range of specialized care designed to meet the unique needs of children and their families.
“Joining hands with Atrium Health Levine Children’s marks an exciting new chapter for our team at Pediatric Surgical Associates,” said Dr. Daniel Bambini, one of the five surgeons joining Levine Children’s. “Our longstanding partnership has allowed us to provide exceptional surgical care, and this integration will enhance that mission. With the hospital’s advanced facilities and comprehensive support services, we will combine our expertise to deliver compassionate, family-centered care and strengthen surgical care for children in our community as one team.”
Since opening its doors in 2007, Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital has established itself as a trusted resource for families, ranking as a U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital every year since its inception. With this combination, the hospital now hosts the largest pediatric surgical program in the region and one of the largest in North Carolina, reflecting its ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of our community’s youngest patients.
