Now Serving Panoramic Views: Feast on the Skyline, Stay for the Food

Hungry for something different? Get ready to soak up the city’s skyline and eat healthy while you do it.

Want to have a fun but sensible outing? It’s easier than you might think. To help you take the guess work out of where to go and what to eat once you’re there, we scanned the menus of a couple local restaurants known for their scenic views. Check out our recommendations so you can eat smarter with less effort while getting your fill of the skyline.

Chow Down From up High

At Fahrenheit, Chef Rocco Whalen serves up “inventive, new American cuisine.” The upscale restaurant also boasts an outdoor patio with views of uptown Charlotte from 21 stories in the air. In the evening, try any of the salads (dressing on the side), the Ahi Poke Nachos or the Grilled and Glazed Wild Caught Salmon. For Sunday brunch, try the “Eat Clean, Train Dirty,” a sandwich made with scrambled egg whites, chicken sausage, tomato and spinach. Get a babysitter and plan on leaving the kids at home, so you can enjoy a night out with your besties or your hubby.

Hop to It, Try Something New

Aptly named, The Peculiar Rabbit in Plaza Midwood is more laidback. Though it’s not as close to the city, it has equally stellar views of uptown Charlotte from its roof-top deck. But, don't overlook the creative pub fare. Try sharing a charcuterie board. With a variety of seasonal meats, cheeses, breads and jams, it’s very munchable and fun for groups. For bigger appetites, try the lamb burger. During brunch, try the spinach and mushroom omelet or splurge and share some chicken and waffles with the kids.

BONUS: Picnic in the Park

The expansive and scenic Romare Bearden Park offers a 360-degree view of the city, lots of green grass and an eye-catching water feature that lights up at night. There’s still time to enjoy a family picnic before it gets too cold. And this park in the heart of the city is a cool spot to people watch, play with the kids or just relax.

Dine Out Like a Pro

The next time you go out to eat, remember these quick tips to help you avoid a food hangover.
  • Have a plan: Scan the menu online beforehand. Try to order foods that are steamed, broiled, baked or grilled. Limit fried and sautéed items.
  • Size Matters: Restaurants often serve entrées that can easily feed two people. So, be conscious of portion sizes. Save money, share a meal.
  • Eat Mindfully: It takes roughly 20 minutes for your brain to signal the stomach that it’s full. So, eat slowly. Using your non-dominant hand is a fun way to do that.
