#ThisIsMyShot: Community Members Share Their 'Why' for Getting Vaccinated

Hugging your grandparents. Celebrating birthdays in person. Traveling somewhere new.

The COVID-19 vaccine is your best shot to getting back to the things you miss. See why these community members chose to get the vaccine. Share your "why," too, by posting to social media and using the hashtag #ThisIsMyShot!

The COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and the community. After a year of social distancing, mask-wearing and canceling plans, it’s your chance to start getting back to your old life.

Currently, the state of North Carolina is making the vaccine available to groups based on your COVID-19 risk level. Meet some community members who received their first dose and shared their "why." We encourage you to schedule your vaccine as soon as you can – and don’t forget to take a picture and tell us your 'why' using the hashtag, #ThisIsMyShot, too!

Meet Pedro 👋

“I want to be healthy. I want to stop the spread. I enjoy meeting people and traveling to new places with my job, and now, I can go back to doing what I love.” #ThisIsMyShot

In March, Atrium Health provided thousands of airline employees and transportation workers with their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The mass vaccination event was hosted in partnership with the State of North Carolina, the City of Charlotte, Charlotte Douglas International Airport and American Airlines.

Pedro Macedo, a flight attendant with American Airlines, was one of the first in line. Due to the pandemic, Pedro was furloughed for 5 months, but is now back in the skies, providing service with a smile to all customers.

Meet Martin👋

“I believe in science. I’ve seen the development of these vaccines and I have faith that it’ll protect me, my family and everyone else who's going to get vaccinated. I always say to my friends that if you have faith that you can visit me from Texas on a flight from Texas to Charlotte, that means you have faith in science, that the plane is going to take you to Charlotte. Similarly, you should have faith in the development of vaccines. Let’s all get vaccinated!”⁣ #ThisIsMyShot

Martin Takawira, an aircraft mechanic and avid traveler, recently received his COVID-19 vaccine at Bank of America Stadium. After getting the vaccine, he shared why becoming vaccinated is a crucial step toward a new normal. ⁣

Meet Tom 👋

“The lasting effects of the pandemic have been heartbreaking, but with the vaccine rolling out in phases, I’m excited for what the future holds for us. This is the solution many Americans have been waiting for and it’s time. It's time to be able to be a community again, and this seems like the right way to do it. I truly miss visiting with family and friends, so I’m looking forward to the day I board a plane to go visit loved ones.” #ThisIsMyShot
