For personalized, comprehensive care of your irregular heartbeat (called an arrhythmia), the cardiac physicians of Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute’s Advanced Heart Rhythm Program will develop a treatment plan that’s right for you.

From offering dedicated care for atrial fibrillation to 24/7 remote monitoring of your device, we combine deep clinical experience with expertise in the latest technologies. And with more than a dozen locations across the Carolinas, you’re close to the expert care you need.

Expertise in Atrial Fibrillation

More than one in three patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib) will have a stroke during their lifetime. It’s just one reason why coordinated care for AFib, the most common type of irregular heartbeat, is so important.

At our dedicated Center for Atrial Fibrillation, we bring together a team of highly skilled cardiologists with specific expertise in managing this disease. The result? Excellent patient outcomes, including highly reducing your chance of returning to the hospital.

Specialized Arrhythmia Treatment Options

For any kind of arrhythmia, we provide the full range of surgical and minimally invasive options:

  • Catheter-based ablation – a non-surgical procedure, using radiofrequency (heating) or cryo (cooling) ablation, in which a wire or ultra-fine tube is inserted through a vein in the leg and into the heart to disrupt faulty electrical signals
  • Surgical and minimally invasive surgical ablation – creating scar lines on the surface of the heart that redirect the irregular electrical impulses
  • Left atrial appendage closure – a minimally invasive procedure that reduces the risk of stroke in AFib patients
  • Specialized antiarrhythmic medications
  • Implantation of cardiac pacing devices – pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators to restore and maintain regular heart rhythm
  • Complex laser and mechanical lead and device extraction – removal of a damaged device or its wires when they are causing scarring or infection

Experienced Device Management

If you have an implantable cardiac device like a pacemaker, we can help you maintain an independent lifestyle and visit the office less often. As one of the largest device management clinics in the US, we offer:

  • Extensive experience – with more than 11,000 patients followed
  • 9 convenient device clinic locations and five hospital implant locations across the Carolinas
  • Remote monitoring, including real-time care and alerts
  • Innovative options, including subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillators (SICD), a heart defibrillator implanted under the skin instead of being directly connected into the heart
  • Cardiac device support groups for you and your family. To learn more, call 704-373-0212.
