Medical Education

Residency Program

Our urology faculty for Carolinas Medical Center provides clinical residency training to UNC urology residents. UNC urology residents spend six months with Atrium Health Urology as part of a five-year program. Other CMC residents rotating on urology include:

  • Internal medicine residents
  • Family medicine residents
  • OB/GYN residents
  • Physical medicine rehabilitation residents
  • General surgery residents

The Urology Residency Program has significantly improved the urologic care of indigent and trauma patients at Carolinas Medical Center.

Education for Physicians

The Atrium Health Department of Urology has provided a weekly, region-wide urologic education program for physicians and allied healthcare providers. These conferences at CMC are broadcast to three other urologic communities via their telemedicine sites:

The program is varied among four formats: a guest speaker, a case conference, discussions of morbidity and mortality and a journal club.

This initiative keeps abreast of the latest developments in urology, ensuring the best care available for their patients. The program is the only urologic continuing medical education program in the region.
