Biography
“My motivation for work is my own children. If my child were sick, I would do anything to find out what was wrong and get them feeling better. I try to put myself in another parent's position and work together as a team to find a solution to their child’s issues. A lot of medicine is about communication, dedication and working together to figure out a solution to a problem.”
Dr. Fleishman is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology. He specializes in treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), cyclic vomiting syndrome, celiac disease, reflux, constipation and abdominal pain.
He is an assistant professor of pediatrics and the assistant director of the inflammatory bowel disease clinic at Atrium Health Levine Children's Specialty Center Gastroenterology, where he also serves as the pediatric gastroenterology outpatient medical director. In addition, he is the physician lead for the pediatric to adult inflammatory bowel disease transfer of care clinic.
Dr. Fleishman is fascinated by disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He feels that no 2 patients are the same, even if they suffer from the same disease, and he enjoys working with each patient’s unique set of medical issues.
He has received several awards, including the Young Investigator Award at the ESPGHAN (European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition) Annual Conference and the Professionalism Award for the Levine Children's Residency Program. He was a nominee for the Resident Educator Award at Children's Mercy Hospital.
His research interests include proton pump inhibitor safety, histamine receptor antagonist safety and biologic efficacy in inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Fleishman received his medical degree at East Carolina University, completed his residency at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital and his pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Children's Mercy Hospital.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 2 children and their dog. He loves watching his children play softball and tennis. They also like going to the beach, and he has a passion for marine biology, especially sharks.
