Richard L. White, MD

Dr. White is board certified in surgery and completed his fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute. His primary clinical interests are breast cancer and cutaneous malignancies/melanoma. He is chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology, endowed professor of surgery, co-director of the Barbara Levine Breast Center and co-director of the Cutaneous Malignancy Program at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute.

The American Cancer Society has awarded Dr. White the St. George National Award for outstanding contributions to the control of cancer. He has also been named a Best Doctor in America and a Top Doctor by Charlotte Magazine. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. 

Dr. White feels few things in life are more difficult than a cancer diagnosis. Both of his parents died of cancer, so he understands the effect cancer has on a family. It became clear during his surgical training that he wanted a deep and lasting relationship with his patients combined with the skills that could make a difference in their lives.

He received his medical degree at Columbia University and completed his residency at Georgetown University. He followed that with a fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute.

In his spare time, he and his family enjoy the beach, hiking and traveling.
