Our combination unites established leaders in cancer research, education, prevention, treatment and survivorship:
At Levine Cancer, we’ll never stop pushing for new and better approaches to prevent, treat and beat cancer. And with our advanced model of care, we’re boldly leading the way.
We’re at the forefront of medical advances that will transform cancer care in our region and beyond. As an integrated cancer program that’s supported by Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the academic core of Advocate Health, we’re poised to bring innovations to our patients even faster.
Our multidisciplinary teams treat all types of cancer, including the rarest and most complex cases. Physicians and scientists throughout our network – among the largest in the Southeast – can collaborate in real time to ensure every patient receives the safest and most effective treatment. And with experts in every specialty across our health system, we’re able to deliver complete care for any need.
Our cancer researchers have led numerous scientific breakthroughs that elevated patient care and ultimately saved lives. Fueled by the research and innovation of our NCI-designated Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, we’re working tirelessly to save even more.
We customize the latest therapies to achieve the best outcome for every unique person and cancer. And as pioneers in cancer genomics and precision oncology, we’re studying disease at the molecular level to develop treatment approaches that will deliver faster and better results.
From our emphasis on family involvement to our unmatched supportive oncology and survivorship programs, we put our patients’ well-being above all else. Because the best cancer care treats more than the disease. It offers comfort, dignity and empowerment to help you live better with cancer – and beyond it.
We believe that everyone should have an equal chance of surviving cancer. As a united team, we’ll continue our effort to eliminate health disparities by advancing community engagement, clinical care and research focused on improving outcomes and reducing the burden of cancer for all.
We’re not just creating the future of cancer care – we’re delivering it locally.
Our program is comprised of 28 locations across the Carolinas. As a coordinated network, we’re redefining access to top-quality cancer services.
No matter where patients encounter Atrium Health Levine Cancer, they’ll be seamlessly connected to cutting-edge research, renowned physician expertise and the highest standards of care.
As President of Atrium Health Levine Cancer, Dr. Ruben Mesa looks forward to uniting two of the best and brightest cancer teams in the field.
“Beyond their impressive credentials, these teams are fiercely passionate about making a difference. And as we combine the complementary strengths of both programs, we’re rallying around the belief that we can make an even greater impact as one.”
We’re aligning all of Atrium Health’s cancer services in the Carolinas under a unified brand: Atrium Health Levine Cancer. As an integrated team, we’re bringing together the brightest minds at two nationally recognized cancer centers to better serve our patients.
Our new name, which was established through generous support from The Leon Levine Foundation, represents the next chapter in our united fight against cancer.
Enriched by the research and innovation of our NCI-designated Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, we will prevent, detect, treat and help more patients survive cancer; make life-saving research discoveries; and reduce health disparities in the Carolinas and across the country.
The National Cancer Institute officially designates select cancer centers in the U.S. as “Comprehensive” for meeting the highest standards of cancer treatment, research and education. Of the 1,000+ cancer programs across the country, only 56 – or approximately 5% – have earned this prestigious designation.
The rapid pace of discovery at NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers gives patients early access to the latest therapies and treatment options, sometimes even months or years before non-NCI cancer centers. Research shows that choosing an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center could increase your long-term survival rate by up to 25%.
At Atrium Health Levine Cancer, our entire network is enhanced by the leading-edge research and innovation of our NCI-designated Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Comprehensive Cancer Center in Winston-Salem first earned NCI designation in 1974 and remains the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Western NC.
Within the next 12 weeks, you’ll start to see changes to signage that reflect our new brand at most of Atrium Health’s cancer practices and facilities across the Carolinas. You’ll also see Atrium Health Levine Cancer in other places, like our websites and social media channels.

In fact, the robust research and clinical trials program at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of the key reasons it has maintained the National Cancer Institute’s top designation.
Now, Atrium Health Levine Cancer offers more active clinical trials than any other cancer program in the Southeast – so you can get the newest and most innovative treatments before they’re available elsewhere.
As always, our providers will work to connect every interested and eligible patient to a clinical trial that’s right for them.
