About the Center for Prehospital Medicine

Located in Charlotte, NC at Carolinas Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center and the flagship hospital of the third largest healthcare system in the United States, Atrium Health, the Center for Prehospital Medicine (CPM) is a leading provider of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) primary and continuing education. Approved by the state of North Carolina as an Advanced EMS Education Institute, CPM employs leading educators in the field of EMS. CPM has partnered with both the local community college and the local EMS agency to provide EMS education that exceeds state and national standards.

For many years, CPM and the Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic) have worked together to ensure that the most exceptional EMT-Basics and EMT-Paramedics are responding in Mecklenburg county. To achieve this exceptional workforce, CPM provides instruction for both basics and paramedics that have recently been hired by Medic. Additionally CPM is an important component of Medic’s continuing education program.

In more recent years, CPM began conversations with Central Piedmont Community College regarding bringing a community paramedic program back to the Charlotte area. In January of 2012 the program came to fruition. As a result of the partnership between CPCC and CPM, the first community paramedic program in the area in several years began. The students of this inaugural class graduated in May of 2013.
